Soccer Lions Academy

Soccer is the main sport of interest in McAllen, Texas. Soccer Lions Academy (SLA), an off shoot of the Taylor Community Center (TCC), is strategically located in McAllen, Texas to offer services to families from all over the Rio Grande Valley. SLA offers practice twice a week for young children and a safe, loving, environment for exercise and training year-round. The academy participates in a league every spring and has had success over the years as our quality coaching is coupled with relevant life lessons. Above all, Jesus is proclaimed and made known to many families every year. 

IMPACT

In this age of technology overload, many parents are searching for ways to keep their kids active and healthy. Many are contacting us for information on enrolling their children in our low-cost soccer academy. 

One player who trained with the Soccer Lions Academy had the opportunity to join a friend in a different soccer program. His mother shared that he chose to stay with us because he valued the love and patience of our coaches. Another young boy was directly impacted by a devotional shared by a coach before practice. He was able to share the Bible story with his (non-Christian) mom when he chose to obey her instructions “like the wise man who built his house on the rock.”

• PRAY: Children of all backgrounds come to us for soccer training. Pray that God would demonstrate His love through the missionaries and volunteers of the SLA to draw both the players and their families to Himself. Pray that conversations on and beside the playing field will form strong relationships that will point them to hope in Jesus Christ.
