Uganda
This is the day of the Lord in Uganda. God continues to challenge WGM Uganda in its efforts to expand its current ministries and answer the call to train more Ugandans so they can reach their people with the truth. The harvest is ready, but the need for workers in the field is greater than ever. Is Uganda waiting for you?
Children’s/Youth Ministries WGM strives to build the future church and change the world through children and youth who are in love with God. While providing physical and emotional support, we are able to minister to the spiritual needs of children and youth by introducing them to the love of Christ.
WGM Uganda is in the midst of developing a youth ministries curriculum and training national youth pastors, but more help is needed to build children’s/youth ministries in Uganda as more than 50 percent of the country’s population is under 15 years old. Could they be waiting for you?

Church Ministries Training nationals to plant and pastor dynamic churches in their own villages is the focus of WGM Uganda. This training began with 10 pastors in 1999, but now more than 110 Ugandan church planters and pastors are being trained at nine centers throughout the country and one in Sudan. The field has also grown from two churches to almost 130, and the leadership training has compelled outreach in areas such as healthcare, education, and literature production.
The WGM Uganda team hopes to open new pastoral training centers in the far northern, western, and eastern parts of Uganda with long-term goals of reaching into Sudan, Rwanda, the Republic of Congo, and parts of Tanzania. The field also holds Vacation Bible School programs at local churches, providing evangelistic films through which many people hear about Jesus and accept Him as their Savior.

Compassionate/Medical Ministries WGM Uganda answered the cries for help and established community-based healthcare ministries in 1992 as an outreach from WGM’s original ministries in Kenya. The overall mission of the ministry is to empower communities through healthcare activities that promote healthy families. The first healthcare center was opened in the Wakiso District but moved to Busia in 1999. Additional healthcare centers have been opened in Soroti, Kikongo, and on the Buvuma Islands.
Through this ministry, national healthcare workers are trained to promote prenatal care, administer inoculations, educate nationals about the necessity of boiling water and using mosquito nets, promote training in midwifery, and treat many ailments and diseases. The community-based healthcare staff also helps protect the country’s natural springs from domestic animals, ensuring safe, clean water for entire communities and bringing safe drinking water closer to home.

Educational Ministries Through educational ministries in Uganda, students are impacted with the Word of God, shown the love of Christ, and equipped to be tomorrow’s church leaders. The Uganda missionary staff is providing education to missionary kids, national children, and university students at Heritage International School, Kikongo Primary School, and Kampala International University.
Heritage International School: WGM missionaries work with approximately 200 students from preschool to 12th grade at Heritage International School in the capital city of Kampala. The student body represents numerous missions agencies and denominations, and the children of expatriate businessmen and women are also free to attend. Students’ nationalities include Canadian, Ugandan, American, Eritrean, Indian, British, and Korean. Heritage is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Uganda.
Kikongo Primary School: Kikongo Primary School is located on the Buvuma Islands, a two-hour boat ride from Uganda’s mainland, and is home to more than 300 students, including nearly 100 orphans. The school reaches out to students who are in the American equivalent of first through fifth grade. However, since many of the children have not been able to attend school, their ages range from 5 to 15.
Kampala International University: KIU is a private school that offers full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate programs. Weekly Bible studies for men and women, weekend and midweek church services, and music outreach are regular parts of the ministries to the students and surrounding community.

Support Ministries WGM believes there is a place for everyone in missions. Support ministries offer a way for people to find their niche in missions by using their God-given talents and abilities to work hand-in-hand with other missionaries and national Christians. Some available opportunities include being accountants, treasurers, mechanics, computer technicians, work team coordinators, maintenance workers, and guesthouse hosts. These support roles complement the other ministries on our fields.
