Mid-term Opportunities

Mid-term Service: Explore Your Passion

One morning, you wake up in the quiet courtyard of a Honduran church. While most of your surroundings are unfamiliar, like the cold showers, the papaya for breakfast, and the barefoot children who run by your homestay, one thing remains the same: your desire to restore God’s kingdom to Himself. In that place—Honduras, Texas, Uganda, or wherever God leads you—you are exploring how your passions intersect with God’s heart. As your missionary host guides you through the new culture and teaches you the values of ministry work, your open hands and teachable spirit allow you to play a part in Christ’s work to reclaim His kingdom.

As a mid-term global worker with World Gospel Mission, you can serve anywhere from 1–12 months. You will come alongside missionaries and nationals to aid them in their ministry and gain a deeper understanding of missions and the realities of cross-cultural living, while serving the community in meaningful ways.

These experiences are customized to you. Let’s find where your passion intersects with God’s heart.

Attention College and Graduate Students: Are you looking for something more than an average internship or practicum? You may be able to earn credits while serving in one of our locations around the world.

“Experiencing and serving in another culture is a positive, growing, and enlightening experience. My volunteer experience allowed me to be stretched and taught by the Lord.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I qualified to serve as a mid-term global worker?
Just asking this question is a good start, it demonstrates that you care about achieving God’s best for your life. If you are a Christian and desire to walk in repentance, growing in your relationship with God, you are qualified!
I have a special set of skills, can I put those to good use?
We seek to help you live at the intersection of your passion and God’s heart. If you are a medical professional or educator, there is a specific need for you in the developing world, but we are all members of the body of Christ with unique God-given passions and skills. So whether you can start an IV, write a VLOOKUP function in a spreadsheet, or have a passion for serving children, we’ll help you find the place that you are most suited to serve the Kingdom.
Where can I serve?
You can serve on any of our existing ministry locations in the United States or around the world. Check out this world map to see where WGM global workers are located or contact us for more information.
How long will I serve?
You can serve anywhere from one month to a year, dependent on your schedule and the schedule of your ministry location. Although you can serve only one year at a time, you can reapply after your first term to serve again.
Where will I live?
Part of the money you raise covers housing, and we arrange that for you. Some volunteers live with missionaries while some live with other volunteers. It is also possible to live with a national family or have your own house or apartment.
How do I prepare for cross-cultural ministry?

As a volunteer you will receive initial training prior to leaving for your ministry location. This includes discussing topics such as spiritual preparation, culture stress, being a good guest, and more. Once you arrive on your location, you'll go through specific training related to the ministry in which you'll be involved.

In the meantime, here is a list of books, websites, podcasts and other resources as you prepare to serve in cross-cultural ministry.
How soon can I leave?
You can leave anytime during the year, there is no specific application deadline. However, plan to apply at least four months before you would like to serve.
How much does it cost?
We customize your budget for your specific ministry and time frame. Budgets are all-inclusive, taking all expenses into account from the time you leave until you return. Please contact us for information about specific location and time frame cost estimates.

Usually, mid-term volunteers send out 30 to 100 letters to family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances to invite them to partner in cross-cultural missions with them. Volunteers also speak in their home church and other local churches. In other words, you raise your support—but we show you how. You can also choose to provide for your funds personally.
