Kenya: The Least of These Education Fund

One important aspect of the Least of These Ministry is education. As a ministry, we want to help support the educational needs of the orphaned and vulnerable children God has called us to serve. In Kenya, school goes year-round and is split into three terms. There are a variety of expenses that must be paid for: uniforms, books, school supplies, and school fees (which are paid each term). For many, these costs can be overwhelming. We have also been able to help provide backpacks, technology, and other necessities for some students.

One way LOT assists is through our scholarship program, helping to pay for school fees and other incidental costs. We meet with each scholarship student at least once a year to take them out for a meal, encourage them, and pray for them. We also check their grades each term to see how they are doing and, if necessary, offer tutoring. 

There is a major exam that students in Kenya take when they are in the eighth grade. We have a pre-test pizza party each year for the eighth-graders who are part of the homes and schools that LOT serves. It is a chance to talk with, encourage, and pray for them. We also give them goodie bags. 

Some of the kids we serve may need to be tested to see if they have a learning disability or other special need. LOT helps to get them connected with or taken to the Kenya Institute of Special Education, and, if needed, we help find or provide needed therapies.
