Since 1948, WGM has been serving on the Mexico border in McAllen, Texas. What began as a small outreach over seventy years ago with the Taylor Christian School has expanded into a multi-faceted approach to spreading God’s love. Today, missionaries serve through the ministries of Taylor Community Center and to provide wholistic care, discipleship, and support for families.  We use education, sports ministries, community outreach, and church networking to make disciples and expand the kingdom of God.

Opened in 2005, Taylor Community Center (TCC) has become the hub of missions work in McAllen. TCC serves seeks to share the love of Christ through offering recreation, education, clothing, resources, and friendship to children, youth, and adults of the Rio Grande Valley.

Educational opportunities of TCC include weekly children’s Bible classes and monthly women’s and men’s discipleship classes. Some topic specific classes are offered several weeks at a time, including classes for English as a second language. In the fall of 2022, TCC will become the South McAllen campus for Classical Conversations.  This God centered homeschool group meets in community one day each week in our TCC classrooms.

TCC has its own sports ministry, the Soccer Lions Academy, which provides community youth with an opportunity to join a league and participate in practices and weekly games. We offer Gospel Martial Arts Union classes weekly, and community sports teams rent our gymnasium for volleyball practices several nights each week.

TCC renovation through the Taylor Transformation Project is almost finished! Project completion will increase the space of the facility and provide more opportunities for adult education and afterschool tutoring with the goal of transforming lives through the power of the gospel.

Poverty presents a serious issue to families on the border who often struggle to obtain adequate food and clothing. In keeping with WGM’s commitment to reaching the whole person, The Sparrow’s Nest—an outreach program of the TCC—collects gently used clothing and nonperishables and redistributes them to the community at a low cost while seeking share the love of Christ to teach recipients personal stewardship.

The Kingdom Builders prayer group meets monthly at TCC.  It brings local pastors and church leaders together for prayer, fellowship, and collaboration to build the kingdom of God.
