Yakitori (Grilled Chicken)

A little taste of Japan from World Gospel Mission’s International Cookbook

Yakitori brings a twist to your normal grilled chicken dinner night. The WGM test kitchen gives this marinade rave revues. Our only complaint is that we should have made more chicken. The crowd wanted seconds. This recipe can easily be doubled for feeding more than two people. Enjoy!

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 2 T. soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 T. sugar
  • 2 T. water

Serves 2.

Yakatori: gather the ingredients

The nice thing about this marinade is that you likely already have most of the ingredients in your pantry.

Yakatori: marinate the chicken

We put the chicken, sugar, water, and soy sauce into a plastic bag for marinating in the fridge.

Yakatori: dice the chicken into bite-size pieces

After the chicken rested for a half hour in the marinade, we diced the chicken breasts into bite-size pieces.

Yakatori: put the diced chicken on skewers
Yakatori: grill the skewered chicken

After the chicken was cut, we placed one breast per skewer.

The skewered chicken cooks nicely on the grill.
