Unpack: Resources for Missions Trips

July 13, 2017

Heading out this summer on a missions trip? Already looking ahead to a trip next year? It’s never too early to start planning and preparing for a short-term missions experience.

We know you want to make the most of your time at your location of service, so we’ve prepared some resources to help you get ready to go and know what to do when you return.

Before You Go

Build Your Prayer Team: Prayer is absolutely vital as you embark on your missions journey, whether you’re serving for a week or a lifetime. Missionary service directly counters the powers of darkness, so you need a group of people committed to faithfully pray for you. This guide will give you ideas on how to gather and inform your prayer support team.

Practice Your Testimony: One of the best tools for sharing the message of the gospel is your own story of how Jesus Christ came into your life and made you a new person in Him. This guide will walk you through the process of articulating your testimony and preparing to share it with those you meet on your trip.

Plan Your Packing: It can be daunting to figure out what you actually need on a missions trip. We’ve put together a few tips for packing and a sample list of things you might want to include in your luggage.

While You’re There

Photography Dos and Don’ts: There’s no better souvenir to get on a missions trip than plenty of pictures! Here are a few reminders of ways to use your picture-taking moments for good and a few things to avoid.

Travel Tips: Traveling as a team has its advantages, but it can be challenging too! Keep these tips in mind as you travel to and around your destination.

Check Your Expectations: Although team leaders and missionaries do all they can to have a plan in place for what a team or volunteer will be doing, things can change rapidly. Make sure to leave some room for God to work. For more help on understanding the need for flexibility, check out this article.

When You Return
