Twice a year, the WGM Board of Directors hosts a commissioning service for newly approved missionaries. These new missionaries are in varying stages of preparation—some have just begun to build a partner team, others have already packed their bags. They’re on their way to a variety of locations and come from a variety of nations.

But these sisters and brothers have at least one thing in common: they’ve obeyed the call to go. It’s a thrilling ceremony, and it calls to mind Jesus’ own obedience in coming to earth.

And it’s His obedience that results in a call for all of us to go, to tell others His story. While going looks different for each of us—some are called to move to a different continent, others are called to minister in their hometowns—we each have opportunities to imitate Jesus’s sacrifice for God’s glory.

To that end, this devotional series will walk through Jesus’ birth from the perspective of Philippians 2:5–11, where Paul describes Jesus’ advent on earth:

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Settle in as four WGM global workers tell stories from a lifetime of service and draw real-life connections from the passage. At the end of each devotional, you’ll find a fun Christmas activity that you can do by yourself, with friends, or as a family.
