Barbara Pinkley
I am a missionary kid who had the joy of making the decision to follow Jesus as a young girl. By age 12, I knew God was calling me to serve Him and share that joy with others. He continues to work in my life and teach me to trust Him, no matter what the circumstances. Looking back over the years, it has been a blessing to see how He has given me opportunities to join Him and others to touch lives for now and eternity.
My nearly 41 years of service with World Gospel Mission have passed by quickly. My first assignment was to Burundi, Africa, where I served for several years as a nurse and midwife until my transfer to Kenya, where I have served ever since at Tenwek Hospital. For the last 30 years, I have had the joy of being part of the team training nursing students at Tenwek Hospital College of Health Sciences (formerly known as Tenwek School of Nursing). One of my greatest joys is seeing nursing students and graduates put into practice principles of excellence and compassion as they touch lives professionally and spiritually as they “Care in Christ’s Name.”
During the past seven years, it has been special to see a dream come true as Kenyans have been doing a great job of filling the leadership roles in our nurse training staff. This multiplication principle makes it possible to touch more lives as we work side-by-side to continue to train nurses. We are thankful for the vital team of people who pray and share financially so that we can join God in what He is doing in Kenya. I look forward to returning to Kenya again to join my team in training nurses.
