Andy: While growing up on a farm in rural Iowa and all the way through college, missions was never on my “radar.” It wasn’t until I began to become involved in short-term missions trips that God began to open my eyes to His bigger plan for my life. He gave me a burden for using my ordinary skills in practical ways and called me—together with my family—into full-time missions. This calling has led me to a much deeper sense of fulfillment in life and closeness to God and my family as we serve Him together.
Stephanie: I grew up in a very missional family, so full-time missions was something completely normal to me. When I was 16, I felt God asking me to serve Him in Africa. But instead of obeying Him in that, I ignored His calling and stayed put. It wasn’t until later in life—and marriage—that God was gracious enough to give me and our family a second chance to be obedient and serve Him in Africa, no less. It is a joy to serve our Lord in this way, and what an extra blessing to do this with my husband and children by my side.
Along with our children, Carson, Jackson, Shayla, and Aubrey, we serve in community development, working with partner churches to create income-generation projects. We use Farming God’s Way as a tool to train Kenyan church leaders and as a local outreach ministry.
