Meet Nellie Farnsworth: Helping Broken People

September 21, 2017

Nellie is no stranger to missions, having grown up in Kenya as a missionary kid. Since that time, God has taken her on a stretching journey of growth and learning as He has opened her eyes to how she can help those who need it most.

What’s your story? What’s your why?

When I was in eighth grade, God called me to be a relational counselor. I didn't know what that meant exactly, or where He would have me serve, but He was clear in His calling on my life. I completed a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, wanting to be equipped to help people work through the challenges of life, ultimately helping them find freedom and victory in Christ. Recently, God allowed me the opportunity to work in foster care to complete my licensure hours. This opportunity reminded me of the joy and importance of serving in a cross-cultural setting.

Where will you serve?

At this time, I have been approved to work in Africa. It is still to be determined where and what population I will be working with. Regardless, there are always people who have been touched by trauma and are hurting. God has called me to be the ear and the heart to reach out to people to listen and help them process the experiences they have had.

What will you do?

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I will be working as a counselor/therapist, helping people to process the events, experiences, and hurts they have been exposed to.
