Home English Clubs/Summer English Camps in Hungary
The Hungarians’ strong interest in learning English provides an excellent avenue for missionaries to serve Hungarians and help make their lives better while creating relationships that point them to Christ.
Home English clubs target teens and adults of all language abilities and encourage relationship-building. The curriculum is designed to challenge the students’ worldview and present the gospel to them. Eight English clubs meet once a week throughout the year in the missionaries’ homes and have been an effective way for the missionaries to meet the needs of the Hungarians, strengthen relationships, and show them the love of Christ.
Native English speakers are a great draw for Hungarians to attend summer English camps, where students not only learn English, but they also hear about God’s great love for them. The camps last from one to two and a half weeks, depending on the foreign staff that travels to Hungary to teach English. A handful of Hungarian college students help as translators. About 70 students and adults participate in the camps, which offer day and evening tracks for families so parents can continue their normal work schedules.
PRAY: Pray that the missionaries in charge of home English clubs will develop strong and lasting relationships with Hungarians so that they may share Christ’s love. Pray also that the leaders of the summer English camps will have the energy they need to run safe and productive camps and that many lives will be changed for Christ.
