Czech Republic: Summer or Winter English Camps
Ministry
Summer and winter camps are really popular in the Czech Republic. Through our involvement with the local church, we are able to be a part of English camps. Here we are able to share more about our relationship with Christ as we seek to love teens and young adults.
Opportunities
Work with a local Czech church to help plan and facilitate a winter or summer English camp for students and young adults. These camps include a variety of activities, games, and fun English lessons, as well as a time of devotions and testimonies from the staff. Here we have the opportunity to speak God's truth into the lives of Czech young people. Hearing personal stories makes a big impact. The church is then able to follow up with individuals from the camps to support them as they are seeking to know more about Jesus or even to make a decision to follow Him.
Summer camp usually lasts six days, and winter camp usually lasts about four. They both take a lot of preparation. Winter camp includes skiing in the mountains.
Length of Service
Short-term: 1–2 weeks
Quick Facts
- Seventy percent of the population of the Czech Republic considers itself to be non-religious. About 11% identifies with the Catholic church, but it seems that much of this is because of cultural and family history rather than a transforming relationship with Jesus. Less than 1% is considered Evangelical Christian.
- The Czech Republic was formerly a part of Czechoslovakia. The Czech and Slovak nations peacefully split in 1993 to form two independent countries.
- Czechoslovakia was under communist rule from 1948–1989.
