Supervision: Director of Communications
Job Purpose & Summary: Write and refine engaging content focusing on storytelling across a variety of platforms with the purpose of inviting people into the ministry of WGM, encouraging those interested in missions, and creatively informing those inside and outside WGM.
Employment Status: Full time

Main Responsibilities
- Create and edit content for donor and communication campaigns that align with communication objectives and organizational goals.
- Create and edit written stories with missionaries and staff for use on the blog and The Call, WGM’s magazine, as directed by the Director of Communications. Stories may be written by others or written collaboratively. They will be found through a general call for stories, interviews, site visits, and the discovery of possible material on social media.
- Plan out the content (monthly focus, posts, and design ideas) for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) that coincides with the Communications content schedule.
- Produce, edit, and customize content for all our platforms, including the blog, website, WGM podcast, and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.).
- Stay up to date on industry standards. Research industry insights and best practices in blog and social media trends.
- Edit content (proofreading for grammar, spelling, and messaging) for the WGM blog, The Call, and publicity materials.
- Create email campaigns that engage through written content, pictures, and other media.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Special Requirements
- Must be sensitive to diversity and different cultures and know how to appropriately represent different cultures in stories and posts.
- Must have the skills to write and edit stories from a variety of viewpoints.
- Must have ability to recognize quality design and effective publishing techniques.
- Must have ability to work independently and with a team.
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must have good moral character.
- Should reflect WGM’s philosophical concept of human services, which are motivated by a personal commitment to Christian service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, English, Writing, or Communications.
- Portfolio of writing that highlights a minimum of three diverse writing samples (e.g. story-based, donor communication, etc.) and three editing examples you have edited for another author.
- Ability to take initiative and own projects, work with colleagues and collaborate on projects at all levels of the organization.
- Must have knowledge of communications production and strategies and be able to implement principles of brand management and marketing for print and digital platforms.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and MailChimp.
- Familiarity with the Chicago Style Guide is a plus.
- Necessary skills include: collaborative, proactive, strong editorial skills, customer focus, flexibility, attention to detail, people-oriented, deadline-oriented, team player, ability to innovate and learn, and ability to facilitate and receive constructive criticism.
