Haiti: Radio Lumière Battery Club
Electricity in Haiti is limited, and Port-au-Prince is fortunate to get 10 to 12 hours of electricity a day. The need for good battery backups is crucial for Radio Lumière, which broadcasts Christian radio throughout the country 24/7. With the help of the Battery Club, Radio Lumière uses 300 6 VDC batteries (golf cart batteries) and inverters to power the station when the electricity is off. These batteries have to be replaced every two years. The cost of one battery is $175, only 50 cents a day for a year, to help spread the light of Christ throughout Haiti.
