Academia Los Pinares in Honduras
Academia Los Pinares is an evangelical private school located in the mountain community of El Hatillo outside Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It was founded in 1964 as a boarding school for missionary children, but admission was gradually opened to other English-speaking students who commuted to the school each day. Through God’s blessings, the school has grown from a small mission school of 50 students to a Christian bilingual school with more than 800 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
The vision of the academy is to train children in the way they should go and to provide an excellent bilingual education from a Christian biblical perspective. The school offers a U.S. diploma and the Honduran Bachillerato in Sciences and Letters. Extracurricular activities include athletics, student council, chess club, various bands, choir, and a Christian youth club.
Students and Staff
Roughly 88 percent of the student body is Honduran with 12 percent of the students being non-Honduran expatriates. The school’s average class size is 20 students.
The faculty at Academia Los Pinares includes 89 teachers and administrators. More than 60 staff members are from the United States and Canada while about 25 are Honduran. The school is governed by a board of representatives from five Christian missions organizations, including World Gospel Mission.
Academia Los Pinares is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International and AdvancED, a U.S. accrediting agency for schools and colleges. The academy is also a member of the Association of Bilingual Schools of Honduras.
