April Hershberger
I grew up in a family that taught me about God and serving others. I also attended a church that had a heart for missions. When I was 16, I went on my first overseas missions trip, and over the years, I had the opportunity to go on many other short-term trips to Africa. In 2004, I felt God calling me to become a full-time missionary, but I knew I first needed to complete my degree in education. In the summer of 2009, I spent two months serving at the Africa Gospel Church Baby Centre in Kenya as a volunteer. While there, I knew I was going to return; God had given me a heart for working with orphans and other vulnerable children.
I served at the Baby Centre for four years and have now transitioned to Nairobi to join the Least of These team. In my ministry with Least of These, I work with children who are orphaned and/or vulnerable. I work with nationals and missionaries in school settings, helping children in small groups or one-on-one to help them in areas they are struggling in school. I also share Bible stories and do activities with the children as they wait to be seen by my teammates during medical clinics.
God has really given me a calling to work with children who have special needs, to help them and others see that they were fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator who loves them.
