Hungary

Ministry in Hungary is based on building relationships with the Hungarian people. The demand for teaching English as a second language has opened many doors, allowing missionaries to develop these relationships and share the gospel. Although 92 percent of Hungarians consider themselves Christian, they need to know the love of Jesus on a personal level. Will you join the work and help share Christ’s love with the people of Hungary?

Hungarian childrenCHILDREN’S/YOUTH MINISTRIES
WGM strives to build the future church and change the world through children and youth who are in love with God. While providing physical and emotional support, WGM also ministers to the spiritual needs of children and youth by introducing them to the love of Christ.

Through kids’ English clubs, WGM Hungary brings the gospel message and love of Christ to children and youth. The clubs, which combine English teaching and Bible stories, meet every other Monday night.

WGM Hungary would like to expand its children’s and youth ministries to include more kids’ clubs and summer programs. However, they need more help on the field to make these dreams become reality. Do you want to go to Hungary?

CHURCH MINISTRIES
The ultimate goal of church ministries is to develop and establish churches worldwide. This is made possible by constantly striving to create an atmosphere where evangelism can take place. In Hungary, that atmosphere is created through relationships. Teaching English as a second language has proven to be a great tool in developing such relationships with the ultimate goal of establishing churches.

A church plant in Budapest was started in the fall of 2007 as a partnership between WGM Hungary and the Church of the Nazarene. Another church, planted in Erd, meets with the focus of “Following Jesus Together.”

The congregation in Erd comes together every Sunday at 10 a.m. for praise, prayer, singing, fellowship, and preaching of the Word. Services are bilingual as many contacts come from the English ministries, and the English aspect of the service is a draw for them.

Although many contacts come from the English ministries, WGM Hungary’s influence also touches neighbors, shopkeepers, and other unexpected people whom Jesus brings in the missionaries’ lives. Anyone who wants to follow Jesus is welcome.

EDUCATIONAL MINISTRIES
WGM’s educational ministries in Hungary do not follow the normal classroom model. WGM Hungary has answered the call for English training and has created home English clubs and summer English camps dedicated to that need. Other educational outreaches include the Wesleyan Alliance, the International Christian School of Budapest, and theological training for church leaders and future missionaries through Bible schools, seminaries, universities, and extension programs.

Home English Clubs: Home English clubs meet once a week throughout the year. The clubs target teens and adults of all language abilities and encourage relationship building. In addition to teaching the students English, the curriculum is designed to challenge their worldview and present them with the truths of the gospel. WGM Hungary is always looking for teachers to lead these clubs. Do you have a semester or year to spare?

Summer English Camps: Hungarians are very interested in learning English, and coming to a camp where there will be native English speakers is a great draw. Not only do the students learn English, but they also hear the good news of God’s great love for them and are given the opportunity to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Summer camps offer day and evening tracks for families so parents can continue their normal work schedule. Come and see how God can use the language you speak for His glory.

Wesleyan Alliance: WGM was instrumental in starting the Wesleyan Alliance in 1998 and continues to provide leadership for the organization. The Alliance exists to develop and promote Wesleyan theology in the Hungarian language and is involved in translation and publication of Wesleyan theological works. In 2003, the Alliance established the Wesleyan Alliance Education Program to train pastors and lay leaders. In addition to WGM, Alliance members include OMS, the Church of the Nazarene, the Hungarian Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, and the Free Methodist Church.

International Christian School of Budapest: International Christian School was founded in Budapest to teach missionary kids but is now open to all students in first through 12th grades. The school follows the American system, and all classes are taught in English. Although WGM Hungary does not currently have missionaries working at the school, they would like to begin recruiting and offering this opportunity for full-time missionaries and short-term volunteers. Could they be waiting for you?

SUPPORT MINISTRIES
WGM believes there is a place for everyone in missions. Support ministries offer a way for people to find their niche in missions by using their God-given talents and abilities to work hand-in-hand with other missionaries and national Christians.

Support ministries include professional positions as well as positions requiring no professional training. Some available opportunities include accountants, treasurers, mechanics, computer technicians, work team coordinators, maintenance workers, and guesthouse hosts. These support roles complement the other ministries in Hungary.
