Christian Academy in Japan

Christian Academy in Japan (www.caj.or.jp), located in the western suburbs of Tokyo, was founded in 1950 by a group of missionary parents wanting to provide a quality Christian education for their children. Providing an American education for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, Christian Academy in Japan is the main missionary kids’ school for the Greater Tokyo area.

Approximately 475 students attend the academy each year. The student body is composed of primarily MKs (54 percent), representing over 40 different missions organizations. Children of expatriate businessmen and women comprise the other half of the student population. The current student population is 55 percent American, 27 percent Japanese, and 11 percent Korean, with the remaining 7 percent coming from more than 12 other countries.

In addition to classroom education, the academy offers help and resources to missionaries who are homeschooling their children, have children enrolled in Japanese schools, or need counsel regarding their children’s education. Christian Academy in Japan is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International, Christian Schools International, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Roughly 90 percent of Christian Academy in Japan graduates attend a college or university.

Christian Academy in Japan is operated by a board of directors composed of representatives from these missions organizations: CB International, Christian Reformed World Missions, Evangelical Covenant Mission, OMS International, SEND International, and The Evangelical Alliance Mission.
