Uganda Famine Relief

WGM Commits $15,000 to Efforts

Does a disaster have to be big to qualify as a disaster? Like a cyclone in Myanmar…an earthquake in China…a tornado in Oklahoma? Does it have to strike suddenly, sweeping countless lives into eternity?

What if the disaster you’re facing is small…just a famine in your home area and maybe two or three other regions of your country? What if it’s not a sudden thing, but a slow death that comes creep, creep, creeping to take away those you love? And what if you can’t do anything about it because there’s little food and even less money to buy some if you can find any?

Which ones would you choose to feed?

Today in Uganda, there are mothers in Bugiri and Kayunga and on Buvuma Island who know that there’s not enough food for their families. Today they have to ask themselves, “Will I feed my children or my husband or my parents?” (Reports from the famine-stricken regions show that older people are already dying.)

First there was no rain and two earlier plantings withered. Then there was too much rain and the third planting washed away. Now these subsistence farmers don’t even have the hope of a crop coming in.

You may have touched these people’s lives before.

If you have been giving to ministries in Uganda already, some of the people who are facing starvation today are the pastors who have studied at the WGM training centers. And their families. And the believers who have come to faith through their preaching. And their neighbors in Bugiri and Kayunga and on Buvuma Island who may die—without Christ—if they don’t get food.

Sure, this is just a small disaster. Unless you are the one going through it.

Your gift of $25 today to the WGM Crisis Relief Fund will mean maize meal and beans to feed a family for a week and will also provide seeds for them to plant. Your gift of $100 gives a family a month of food security and a hope for the future.

As gifts come in, WGM is committed to sending up to $15,000 to Africa Gospel Church Uganda. They are the ones who will distribute the food and seeds to those in direst need. And show what the love of Christ looks like in skin. Any amount over $15,000 will remain in the Crisis Relief Fund to help with needs in the next disaster.

Please take a minute right now to pray that help will reach these Ugandan villagers in time. Ask God what He wants you to do so that this small disaster doesn’t turn into a big one.
